The Importance of Budgeting to Avoid Defaulting on Student Loans Students defaulting on their loans will always be a problem for the government as long as there are students taking out loans. There will always be a few that donââ¬â¢t pay off their loans. There are many reasons why students default on their student loans. According Ms. Farrell, the author of ââ¬Å"Reducing Student Loan Defaults: A Plan for Action,â⬠in the Office of Planning, Budget, and Evaluation Survey, said ââ¬Å"The main reason that students default on their loans is that they cannot budget their financesâ⬠(Farrell 24). Even though a number of students are working while going to school, they donââ¬â¢t understand the financial burden that loans will place in their lives. Inâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦President Clinton said, ââ¬Å"We have tracked down defaulters and made them payâ⬠(17). The partnership between President Clinton, the US Department of Education, different Universities, and college students, can educate other students through different programs. They can teach students how they can budget their student loans into their finances and show them what the penalties are for not doing so. It makes sense for students to budget their finances in the first place, so that they will not fall into a pit of defaulting on their student loans. There are ways that students can budget their finances. First of all, students need to know what budgeting is, and how it can help them. Budgeting can be defined as the ability to estimate the amount of money to be received and spent for various purposes within a given time frame (Finney 175). Budgeting can help students coordinate their activities, developing financial objectives, reveal inefficient, ineffective, or unusual utilization of resources, make family members aware to use money wisely, and allow recognition of problems before they occur. Although good record keeping is required for the budget to be of use, once students get themselves on a regular schedule of budgeting their finances it becomes just anotherShow MoreRelatedLoan Portfolio Management23089 Words à |à 93 PagesLoan Portfolio Management Introduction Background: L ending is the principal business activity for most commercial banks. The Blues Essay Example For Students
The Blues Essay One can surely conclude that without the blues the face of music would be very different today. Originating in Africa during the time when Africans were being extracted for the slave trade, the blues found its way into the southern United States. This form of music dipped into the emotions felt by lonely slaves removed from their families and native land. Perhaps the only common thing between blacks and whites in this turbulent time were these notes of sorrow. White people accepted their slaves music and compared their misery to their own. This parallel was one of the only things shared by the clashing races. Since then the blues have worked their way into all forms of contemporary music. Jazz, Rock and Roll, Bluegrass and even Rap are based on the patterns and principles of the Blues. This is why it is a turning point. Without this African influence it is obvious that most forms of music would be different if not nonexistent today. Blues legend B.B. King is a perfect example of the musics diversity. In addition to the original blues he has played songs with other artists in the fields of Rap, Rock and Roll and even Reggae. In the nineteen sixties a turning point in the blues themselves sparked a turning point in the nation. The audience went from mainly African American to mainly white. This set the stage for artists like Eric Clapton to apply their musical talent to the art form. This, in turn, helped melt the blues into mainstream American culture. Rap artists have two main influences going back to tribal Africa. Reggae is based on percussion rhythms from central Africa and many political messages from this music are apparent in todays urban music. The other, the blues, have influenced the musical melodies laced over the tribal beats. It is easy to see how this musical form has produced and influenced music far beyond the continent of Africa. Although mostly prominent in North America the blues have been hugely popular in Europe, changing and inventing musical styles there as well. The blues are truly a musical phenomenon. Bibliography:

The Proof of the Pudding is in the Eating Essay Essay Example
?The Proof of the Pudding is in the Eating Essay Paper We have all heard the looks ââ¬Å"you are what you eatâ⬠and ââ¬Å"an apple a twenty-four hours keeps the physician away.â⬠Turns out these looks hold more truth than weââ¬â¢d likely like to acknowledge. With so many delectably refined, enriched, neon colored, pseudo nutrients out at that place, our encephalons are more baffled than of all time before. Today, nutrient is specifically formulated to hit all the right musca volitanss on our linguas ; besides, its being reinforced with chemical additives that stimulate our appetencies through receptors in our encephalon, much like opiates. Then, its all wrapped up in carefully designed, brilliantly colored packaging, so how could we defy? Not to advert this nutrient is inexpensive! If youââ¬â¢re on a budget you might be in the crosshairs of the average machine Iââ¬â¢m naming modern nutrient. Itââ¬â¢s acquiring progressively hard to see past all the dynamism, and deviate our attending back to kick old, begrimed app les, or murky green Spinacia oleracea. Iââ¬â¢d like to slop the beans, so to talk, about how I came to believe that modern nutrient is lead oning us and working our failings. It can be really hard to weed out the ââ¬Ëbad eggsââ¬â¢ of the big food market shop shelves. A polar point in my nutritionary pilgrims journey was when I found out I was transporting my first boy. I started reading about nutrition and larning how the systems of the organic structure digest and utilize the nutrients we eat. I began by reading articles on the Weston A. Price Foundation web site, whose announcement is: ââ¬Å"Restoring nutrient-dense nutrients to the American diet through instruction, research and activism.â⬠I learned that I had an sentiment about nutrition, and that I didnââ¬â¢t agree with a batch of the guidelines set for us. I discovered that the largest subdivision on the American Food Pyramid, reserved for 6-11 helpings, belonged to grains. Eating this measure of any one type of nutrient each twenty-four hours is dismaying in itself. I decided to look into the subject of grains in peculiar. I read the book ââ¬Å"Wheat Bellyâ⬠by writer, William Davis, a celebrated heart specialist who noticed the inauspicious effects that modern twenty-four hours wheat is harvesting on our organic structures. This book is an dismaying read. It fundamentally states that modern wheat is really a merchandise of familial tinkering and agriculture and non the wheat our grandparents ate. This ââ¬Å"wheatâ⬠is extremely toxic and should be wholly removed from our diets. I decided to utilize this new position of nutrient to my advantage, and finally to the benefit of the roll I had in my oven. With all this nutritionary information and a babe on the manner, I could no longer deny that I needed to alter my diet. Even still, I would hold neer guessed how hard this alteration would be. I was about to be served a immense piece of low pie. It would look that modern agribusiness and large concern did non desire me to cognize what was in my nutrient. Standing in the food market shop isles reading the dorsum of bundles was boring, but important. I practically had to larn a new vocabulary to dissect the 15 missive footings on the ingredient lists. I must hold missed the lesson in school on Mono- and Diglycerides: The most common emulsifiers, and Xanthan Gum: The most common stabilizer and thickening. Since these ingredients are abundant in prepared nutrients, possibly it wouldnââ¬â¢t be such a bad thought to throw them a bone early on, with a lesson on additives. Can you conceive of a nursary rime filled with words like Thiamin Mononitrate, Benzoate, and Hexametaphosphate? The n arrative of Hansel and Gretel faltering upon a house made of Monosodium Glutamate. The Cookie Monster champing down on some yummy, crunchy, Ca chloride. This brings me to my following bone of contention with modern nutrient, 1 that has become particularly prevailing in learning my kids proper nutrition. Why is it necessary to dress up the boxes of awful nutrients with sketchs my kids acknowledge? It feels somewhat like an ambuscade to me. Itââ¬â¢s come to the point where taking my childs to the shop has become awful because every bend they want Dora this, and Spongebob that. The natural, natural attractive force to healthy nutrients is being ripped from our kids as a consequence of aiming and over selling. That endearing coney on the box of cereal is drawing more Trix on me than I would hold of all time guessed. Amply informed, we decided to alter our eating wonts as a household. We started full force, because Lashkar-e-Taibas face it, there is no easing into a alteration like this. I gathered my food markets and we began our wellness experiment. We didnââ¬â¢t consume any gluten, we amped up our fats, we ate dozenss of meat and dairy, and we plied on the fruits and veggies. I got originative with bites and repast programs to maintain from experiencing repetitive. The first few hebdomads were hard ; Iââ¬â¢d pick up a cracker, and right when Iââ¬â¢d go to take a bite, Iââ¬â¢d realize that I wasnââ¬â¢t supposed have it, so Iââ¬â¢d put it back. Although, there were many more times that I would really take a bite, and so stop up holding to abort that mouthful, mid-chew. With all large accommodations, the beginning is the hardest. Dayss went by, so hebdomads, and this became less of a stumbling block and more 2nd nature. Get downing this enterprise with hopes of avoiding certain substances, we didnââ¬â¢t anticipate the other benefits that would result. We showed noticeable weight loss, increased staying power and energy, head lucidity, and drastically improved digestive map. We might every bit good have hit the wellbeing kitty. Our pocketbooks, nevertheless, would reflect a significantly less profitable province. We were larning merely how expensive maintaining stocked on spoilables, such as fruits, veggies, meat, and dairy could be. This is where, I believe, the American nutrient system has profoundly failed us. You can purchase an overruning cart of prepared nutrients for about $ 100 and have it last over a hebdomad, but the same sum of healthy nutrient would be good over $ 200, and perchance last that long. Why should the low income households be forced into purchasing imitation nutrient? We all know that this is more than an epidemic in America, where every twelvemonth more people die from die t related complications than auto clangs, alcohol addiction, and drug usage combined. Childs are being born with new age conditions. Childhood fleshiness and diabetes has more than doubled in kids and quadrupled in striplings in the past 30 old ages. How could that non be diet related? It is about impossible that there could be such a simple hole to these tremendous jobs. It doesnââ¬â¢t involve striping ourselves of delightful nutrients, its more about avoiding toxic chemicals and genetically engineered ingredients concealing in our nutrient. Whether it is an obvious, 15 missive ingredient like those mentioned antecedently, or a apparently guiltless grain, like the toxic GMO wheat ; We need to understand what we are devouring and finally alimentary our organic structures with. There is an look I like that does a good occupation summing up, ââ¬Å"You can be good fed and malnourished at the same time.ââ¬

Gukurahundi -- Attempted Genocide in Zimbabwe
Gukurahundi Attempted Genocide in Zimbabwe Gukurahundi refers to the attempted genocide of the Ndebele by Robert Mugabes Fifth Brigade soon after Zimbabwe gained independence. Beginning in January 1983, Mugabe waged a campaign of terror against the people in Matabeleland in the western part of the country. The Gukurahundi massacres are one of the darkest times in the countryââ¬â¢s history since its independence between 20,000 and 80,000 civilians were killed by the Fifth Brigade. History of the Shona and Ndebele There have long been strong feelings between the majority Shona people of Zimbabwe and the Ndebele people in the south of the country. It dates back to the early 1800s when the Ndebele were pushed from their traditional lands in what is now South Africa by the Zulu and Boer. The Ndebele arrived in what is now known as Matabeleland, and in turn pushed out or required tribute from the Shona living in the region. Independence Comes to Zimbabwe Independence came to Zimbabwe under the leadership of two distinct groups: the Zimbabwe African Peoples Union (Zapu) and the Zimbabwe African National Union (Zanu). Both had emerged from the National Democratic Party in the early 60s. ZAPU was led by Joshua Nkomo, a Ndebelel nationalist. ZANU was led by the Reverend Ndabaningi Sithole, a Ndau, and Robert Mugabe, a Shona. Mugabe's Rise Mugabe quickly rose to prominence and gained the post of prime minister on independence. Joshua Nkomo was given a ministerial post in Mugabes cabinet, but was removed from office in February 1982 he was accused of planning to overthrow Mugabe. At the time of independence, North Korea offered to train Zimbabwes army and Mugabe agreed. More than 100 military experts arrived and began work with the Fifth Brigade. These troops were then deployed in Matabeleland, ostensibly to crush pro-Nkomo ZANU forces, who were, of course, Ndebele. Early Rain That Washes Away Chaff Gukurahundi, which in Shona means early rain that washes away chaff, lasted for four years. It was mostly brought to an end when Mugabe and Nkomo reached a conciliation on Decemberà 22, 1987, and they signed a unity agreement. Although thousands were killed in Matabeleland and the southeast of Zimbabwe, there was little international recognition of the extensive human rights abuses (called by some an attempted genocide). It was 20 years before a report was undertaken by the Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace and the Legal Resources Foundation of Harare. The Explicit Orders of Mugabe Mugabe has revealed little since the 1980s and what he has said was a mixture of denial and obfuscation, as reported in 2015 by TheGuardian.com in the article New documents claim to prove Mugabe ordered Gukurahundi killings. The closest he came to officially taking responsibility was after Nkomo died in 1999.à Mugabe then described the early 1980s as a ââ¬Å"moment of madnessâ⬠ââ¬â an unclear statement that he has never repeated. During an interview with a South African talk show host, Mugabe blamed the Gukurahundi murders on armed bandits that were coordinated by Zapu and a few Fifth Brigade soldiers. However, recorded correspondence from his colleagues reveals that in fact ââ¬Å"not only was Mugabe fully aware of what was going onâ⬠but the Fifth Brigade was acting ââ¬Å"under Mugabeââ¬â¢s explicit orders.ââ¬

American Experiences Abroad - Assignment Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
American Experiences Abroad - Assignment - Essay Example Starting with the explorations of Gene Savoy and Christopher Gist, Americans have been able to travel far and wide in the search for the discovery of new worlds. At the inception of a more perspective based thought process, Americans were under the impression that the world was confined to their land; however, when their famous travellers set sail, they discovered and let the people know that there was more to life than just the piece of territory that a group of people were surviving upon. Discovery is an extremely interesting part of life because it talks about finding out information regarding the yesteryears; it involves looking at things that the past left behind, or finding out about new things in life. The best feeling involved with discovery is when one may understand it present on a different territory or land. Americans, like Gene Savoy, have been heavily influenced by archaeology; he alone has been able to discover 40 lost cities in Peru. Peru has history of the Mayan and Inca civilizations which were brought to light primarily under the guidance of Savoy, who discovered Vilacabamba, the place where the Incas had taken their last refuge during the time of the Spanish conquest and he has also been known to be named Gran Pajaten. His expeditions have been recorded in various books and journals which have proved to be extremely helpful for the purpose of both archaeology and exploration. He has, thus, been able to singlehandedly teach American people about the beauty of being able to discover more; he was able to condemn the notion of living with a single view regarding life and not going out and finding out more about life. In his wake, more and more explorers began to travel to far off destinations like India, Japan, China and other Asian countries, in order to settle with their lives there and find out more about the local extracts of these places. For example, there are a number of Americans that have settled in India today; this is because they hav e been able to find refuge in aspects of life like yoga, worship of the divine individual, self realization and actualization etc. Americans are also fascinated by the medicinal use of the marijuana plant in parts of India which helps them to think and wander around plains and foothills, meeting new people and living a new way of life. They say that this helps them to connect more with nature and helps to provide a stark difference from living within the hustle and bustle of the cities in America. Heavy industrialization, they say, has taken the charm of living for oneself away completely in the modern world, thus, they roam in order to change their lifestyle and live a more happy life, which they may find in ashrams in India, as depicted in the movie ââ¬ËEat Pray Loveââ¬â¢. Letââ¬â¢s move to modern forms of media: they have helped to show how Americans have abandoned their views about life restricted to their own country. In ââ¬ËCasablancaââ¬â¢, the backdrop of the S econd World War helps to depict a man torn inside -- whether or not he should listen to his heart or help his loveââ¬â¢s husband fight against the Nazis in Casablanca, Morocco. The protagonist is an expatriate living in Casablanca and, thus, as an American, he is able to figure out new aspects of himself while living abroad altogether1. When people are forced to leave the country due to social or

Safety - Essay Example Hence, it is important that all business, large, medium as well as small have an occupational health and safety system in place within the organization. The most prevalent occupational health and safety standard which is in existence today is the Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series OHSAS 18001standard, which is suited to many organizations large and small. It has been implemented in many countries including the United States of America, Great Britain, Japan etc with the support of the local standards institutes. Toyota, Honda, Nissan and Chrysler have all thrown their lot with this standard which is also supported by the British Standards Institute. In the absence of an International Standards Organization or ISO standard, the OHSAS standard is the one widely accepted standard recognized all across the world. In this brief essay, an attempt has been made to investigate how a newly started small business may be able to set itself on the path to incorporating the OHSAS 180 01 based occupational health and safety management system within its broader system of corporate management. Implementing an occupational health and safety system is important in a business because the business has legal responsibilities to provide for the safety and welfare of its employees. Unsafe working environment is in the long run counter productive for those who have interests in a business organization, including the stakeholders, employees and perhaps even those with business dealings with the company. An occupational health and safety management system (OHSMS) provides a framework for managing the occupational health and safety responsibilities of a business so that they become more efficient and more integrated into overall business operations. Faced with such responsibilities, it is important for a company to try and follow an established standard related to safety and occupational health in its business operations. Many countries have been waiting for the
